Career background
- I began my career as a Business Systems Analyst working for firstly the Anglo American Corporation and then Edcon. While at Edcon, I moved into the world of fashion retail planning and merchandising. In 1995, I joined Standard Bank to drive their branch merchandising strategy across Africa. I then headed up marketing communication for the Retail Bank in South Africa and was appointed as executive head of Brand marketing for the group in 2001. In 2011, I was appointed to the Group Management Committee forum as Chief Marketing and Communication officer where I was accountable for the marketing and communication strategy and its execution across all divisions and countries of operation.
- Since the beginning of 2017, I have been self-employed in the fields of consulting, coaching, leadership training and development, team facilitation and strategic conferencing.
Coaching philosophy
- “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom” – Aristotle
- What gets people into leadership positions is often old fashioned hard work and a focus on excellence. What helps them to make a success of the role is quite different. It requires a combination of intellect and emotion, deep self-awareness as well as compassion and wisdom. Leaders need to develop the courage to be resilient and to manage change for themselves and others.
- The first step is identifying an individual’s subconscious motivations, de-railers and deeper purpose as well as gaining a profound understanding of their people, team dynamics and their broader organisations
- The school system does not prepare teenagers for the confusion between childhood and adulthood. The earlier a young person can find the balance between taking risks, leading a fun filled life and being responsible, organized and efficient, the better they can cope with life’s stresses and challenges.
- Ongoing change is a reality faced in anyone’s life, both personal and business. It’s never too early to start the journey to self-discovery and growth.
Coaching Approach and Experience
- I have worked closely with senior managers and executives helping them to develop and hone their leadership qualities and management skills
- My strength in communication and interpersonal skills means that I am able to connect effectively and meaningfully with the individuals that I coach
- My clients are corporate executives, management professionals, busy parents balancing family and business commitments and young adults facing the life-stage challenges and relationships complexities.
- My coaching style is situational and client-centric. I use both a non-directive and a co-creational approach depending on the circumstances. My focus is to guide the client to self-discovery and awareness, helping them to uncover their own solutions. I sometimes use examples from my own broad experience in business.
